on the verge

...of a break-through, or a break-down. not sure which.

when i began this dirty little fly-spec on the world wide web, its main purpose was two-fold: to excorcise the demons that too much free time combined with overexposure to whiney needy kids seemed to mass-produce in my cranial cavity, and to rant at length about the political arena.

but, since writing about my kids and observations is way more fun, and since dubya hasn't really done anything ridiculously stupid of late (well, anything new. he still does dumb shit all the time, hourly, no doubt, but nothing that is making the news anymore), i have been focusing on the day to day of yours truly and his own.

and so here we are, o my beloved non-existant readers, from all areas of the globe, all walks of life, those who knew me when, and those who have never really known me, per se, except what is presented here in the written word; on the cusp of something new in the field of yank politics.

and i have to say, it looks to be dull. dreary. dull, dreary, uninteresting, ho hum, and mundane.

i don't hate or love either of the candidates. i think they will both do an equally mediocre job of cleaning up the immense cesspool that dubya has left (though i am leaning more toward obama, as he seems, on paper at least, to have a plan).

we are days away from having a new president, and, to be perfectly honest, o my beloved non-existants, my droogs and only friends, i could really give a shit.

my predictions for the future: if mccain wins, we can count on at least another four years of iraq war (and a pitch will be made to add, at the very least, iran to the list of antagonists, though i am thinking the list will probably look more like: iraq, afghanistan, iran, pakistan, and any other "stans" that might seem bomb-worthy) whilst "cutting unnecessary spending" (and don't ask me how that works, i am not a politician and have no idea how one can continue a couple wars on foreign soil and simultaneously reduce surplus spending. maybe he means cut back on government grants to schools, and reducing the overages spent on dead and maimed veterans' benefits.)

beyond that, it promises to be four years of dithering, dodging the question, smoke and mirrors, and reminding everyone that he takes a "strong" stand on some vaguely familiar issues that remain to be clearly defined.

if obama wins, he will spend alot of time dodging bullets.

(begin side rant: what the motherfucking fuck?!!!? the us is on the verge of actually joining the 21st century, and rednecks with recently shaven heads and relatively new copies of mein kampf are fucking going to enmire us boldly in the late 19th century with great pride and seig hiel waves of the arms.

seriously?!!!? really?!!? i mean, fucking come the fucking fuck on!! if we are going to pick a misfit child-molester-looking maladjusted criminally insane icon as someone to emulate, can we at least pick one from our own fucking country?

wake the fuck up, you ignorant wasters. anyone who has made a bid for purifying the race, or ethnic cleansing, or anything of that nature was out of their damn gourd and ended poorly. according to wikipedia: "Adolf Hitler shot himself in the head with a pistol on April 30, 1945, shortly before the invading Soviet Army captured his bunker in Berlin." after allegedly taking cyanide. wanted to make sure i guess. "Benito Mussolini was captured by Italian ROYALISTS, who wanted to re-institute the Italian monarchy in power. He was shot, and his body was hung in the main square in a Northern Italian city, along with his mistress," it was rumored that an angry mob beat the living bejesus out of him first. according to another website, "Cambodians wept in disappointment after hearing that Pol Pot had died of heart failure Wednesday in a jungle hut on the Thai border, even as the last diehard members of his vanquished movement were moving toward surrendering him to an international tribunal. (sic)'He deserved to die. I am only sorry that he died so easily without being tried,'" it goes on to say he was being held prisoner at his own house by his own men, who wanted to turn him in to the international tribunal. stalin's "official cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage." followed by speculation that he actually drank way too much, woke up in a bed full of piss, unable to speak, and was neglected by doctors who were afraid of being arrested and sent to gulag until he died.

anyone know any icons these miscreants might find to be "suitable role models" who ended well? i would love to know.

so, to the poor white trash dipshits who insist on holding onto ideals better suited for the dark ages, do us all a favor: take hitler's way out.

end side rant.)

beyond that, he seems to have some good ideas, only about 10% of which congress will actually let him enact, and that begrudgingly.

cause let's face it, o my beloveds, politicians are all glad-handing, baby-kissing, backstabbing, lying, hypocritical sonsa bitches who really could care less about me, the voting john q. public.

i'll let ya know how things turn out.

swill and nonsense

a note to myself really quick: i still owe lady macleod a post about tibet, as a microcosm for the entire human race, and my views about all of that.

so my wife is gone this week for training, and in a smaller way, i am reliving last summer. my wife invited my mom to come out and visit and help me with the boys. and i am grateful. mostly.

things you can do with your wife gone and your mom here: clean. drive around hitting all the tourist traps (including a few hours in antiques "malls" (read: cluttered, extremely dusty warehouses with shit piled willy-nilly and naturally overpriced)) . take the kids to their therapies (late) after having missed the school bus (my wife doesn't reset the alarm in the morning, she shuts it off completely). go to the gym (i had a weird thought the other day--it is important to me to not slack on my work-outs with my mom here, so i have been almost militant about needing to go to the gym. it occured to me that from my mom's point of view; the wife is gone, and every day i need to leave the house for a half hour to an hour while the kids are in school. if she didn't know me better (and more importantly, my wife and our relationship), she would no doubt think i was having an affair). take looooong showers (wink wink nudge nudge know what i mean know what i mean). be perpetually tired because i can't sleep at night and don't want to be rude and say "mom, you just dick around here for an hour or two while i take a nap and try to catch up." refrain from beating the kids. lose mind (oh wait, too late!)

i am getting worried about my mom. not like looking-for-hospice-or-nursing-homes scared, but in-the-back-of-my-mind-saving-it-for-a-rainy-day concerned because i see her being what might otherwise be considered absent-minded.

in the car on the way to take wife to the airport, my mom was telling some story to my wife:

mom: "oh, what was his name?"

wife: waits expectantly with an interested look on face.

me: "robin williams."

mom: "he used to do comedy, but lately he has been doing serious roles as well, and he is a really good actor."

wife: tennis-heading between mom and me, secret smile on face.

me: "robin williams."

mom: "he won some award for that movie he did with the two friends from boston."

wife: trying not to laugh, "robin williams?"

mom: "that's it! robin williams."

me: stares blankly.

she is also beginning to show signs of adult-onset racism.

"i think obama has muslim ties and i don't want him to be president."

"i got some foreign lady, and i could hardly understand what she was saying her accent was so thick."

"well, they keep sending all our jobs overseas, it's a wonder anybody's working at all."

and lots of others that i have completely blocked out, because i simply can't wrap my head around the fact that the woman who did the most for instilling in me a sense of universalism, and that we are all equal, and to not prejudge, and not stereotype could, at this point, say some of what she does. and i find i don't even know how to handle it.

for now, i will leave you with that, o my beloved non-existant readers. i am sure there was more, but my mind has more or less completely emptied on me and i feel the burning need for mindless entertainment.

space coast

live from the public library, patrick afb, fl.

a wonderful time was had with j and her recently-returned-from-parts-east hubby, c. i drank a wee bit too much, but then, it just wouldn't be a hang-out with j if i didn't, right? my wife and j and c got along famously, which pleased me to no end.

we left keller, and had a nice, though humid and hot, jaunt down to san antonio to visit a few friends before trying to press on and make up a little lost ground.

the visit with friends of ours from our time in new mexico was great, but hard.

c.w. and j.w. were good friends of ours, and then, after we moved, j.w. suffered a loss of oxygen after a routine surgery, and as a result, he is a quadrapalegic and the mental capacity of a small child.

i can remember when he was vibrant and alive and fun and could quip a quick remark that would make everyone laugh in the time it takes to think it.

i was scared to see him. i was afraid i would act strange. i was worried i would act stand-offish, and that he would, despite the loss of a greater understanding of things, would pick up on it.

but then when he saw us, and the children, his eyebrow went up, he made laughing noises (he is unable to verbalize anything other than a "hey" which he manages to use to convey all manner of wants and needs and emotions), and there was a glimmer of the old j.w., and i smiled and felt more relaxed and at ease.

we pushed on, attempting to get as close to houston as possible before i was too tired to carry on.

which is what we would have done if we hadn't left no. 2's medicine in c.w. and j.w.'s fridge.

so a quick u-turn, negotiating the highways, and popping in for our meds before heading back out. we ended up spending the night in a small town outside of san antonio named seguin.

then mad as hell and not sparing the horses across the remainder of texas, mississippi (a tangent, that may possibly offend some, but then, so might my language, some of my subject matter at any given moment, and even possibly my attitude, so here goes: like many, i am sure, we have preconcieved notions of mississippi. due, mostly, to a couple of movies: mississippi burning and ghosts of mississippi. and it seems to me that mississippi has done little to change our minds on this count. they might make a stab at coming up with a slogan for tourism: something like, "mississippi, we no longer lynch darkies" or something along those lines. (the wife and i had a good laugh over several miles as we discussed this, my initial offering was "mississippi, we no longer kill blacks" to which she replied, "it should be 'lynch' instead of 'kill'" and i said, "well i was thinking the 'n' word instead of blacks, but i just don't use that word ever." the final result was the line above.) it should be noted here that, despite our sick senses of humor, we are not advocators of hate nor of the killing of anyone based on race, religion, or creed, and are simply making an editorial comment on the lack of interest on the parts of the tourist board and governor of mississippi to change the stereotype that the rest of us have that the state is filled with white supremacists. please feel free to leave me scathing comments telling me what a prick i am.), alabama, and deep into florida.

the long and the short, o my beloved non-existants, is that we are here. still living in a suite for about a week longer, without anything but the things that we packed into our (horribly abused and mistreated, but oh, so tough) honda passport, but here.

more news soon, as my kids are beginning to be disruptive here in the library and the cute librarian (what the hell is it about librarians?!? is there some kind of requirement on the application? must be hot with cool little glasses that make you seem approachable...?) is shooting me dirty looks.
